* Coheed and Cambria consists of band members Claudio Sanchez (vocals and guitar), Travis Stever (guitar), Michael Todd (bass/backing vocals), and Josh Eppard (drums). Sanchez and Stever were from a band called Toxic Parents, which dissolved in 1995. They were later joined by Nate Kelley (drums) from the disbanded Moe & The Boogie Cats, plus Jon Carleo (bass) thus forming Beautiful Loser also in 1995.

They renamed themselves as Shabutie (African term for “Naked Prey”) after they nearly disbanded over a gas money issue. Kelley then recruited Michael Todd from Esme 9 to replace Carleo in 1996 (his reason was non sequitur to earlier’s band issue). Around 1999, the band got into heavy drinking during shows. Kelley was said to have literally packed his drums in front of the crowd when Sanchez allegedly screamed a ballad song in a drunken state around February 2000.

Josh Eppard, from the band 3, was then chosen to replace Kelley shortly and in 2001, Shabutie was renamed as Coheed and Cambria (sometimes called as Coheed or Co&Ca) . Dave Parker plays keyboards and guitar when they play live. They occasionally use lapsteel, mandolin and a special device called the talk box in their songs.

* All of Coheed’s albums tell a story—but they weren’t released in sequence. The song, The Suffering, is from Good Apollo I’m Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness. Claudio Sanchez is writing The Bag on Line Adventures, a graphic novel series that will be visual partner to the story that their albums tell. There are three graphic novels out in connection with Coheed’s albums.

* Their music is classified under the progressive rock/alternative rock genre. According to Wikipedia, Coheed’s music evoke earlier similarly crafted rock with their “technical precision, terse rhythmic phrases, and advanced compositional structures.”
