@daphne: To tell you the truth, I find it quite childish when people do ad hominems when they can’t substantiate their cases with cold hard facts and just stick to the issue. All they do is blah and blah’s, jeers and sneers. As if winning the UAAP crown makes you a better student, a better university.

I’m not fighting anyone, dearie. I’m just arguing. There’s a difference there.

UST won the championship and that’s a fact. The Tigers are the best for SY 06-07. Whoever won the finals, bar any form of cheating or technicalities, does deserve the crown. We all should acknowledge that. The UAAP crown was never given in a silver platter. All those who participated know pretty well the hardships and sacrifices they have gone through the season.

DLSU can’t make a case that if they participated last season they would have been champions. If they do, then they assume too much.

Ateneo should (and they did) accept the defeat gracefully.

U.P. should try harder. We have almost always end up being the doormat next to N.U. I guess my alma mater would rather concentrate pulling our resources to improve our quality of education and not be complacent of being on top when it comes to academe-related issues.

Winning the UAAP Men’s Basketball was never U.P.’s top priority or at least one of the urgent items to address. We don’t need it to affirm ourselves and take pride of our institution.

I couldn’t say the same when it comes to other schools.

@Vejano: Rightful place you say? Don’t make me laugh. I’m sorry but I really find it pathetic and quite insulting that you’ve got the balls to include U.P. and glorify your school at our expense without factual data.

I take pride in being from U.P. — the bastion of Academic Excellence in the Philippines. I come from a family where being a Maroon is the norm. Don’t you dare take out that pride. If you do, prove it.

What about you, Vejano? What’s your basis?

U.P. following the coattails of U.ST.? Maybe in sports. Maybe in Men’s Basketball. That one I can concede.

But over-all? Us UPians next in line after Thomasians? HAH! Check the stats. UST is down at 500. That means you are 201 universities behind us — and that is world wide. From where we are standing, you’re looking at the butts of U.P., DLSU, and ADMU.

If Jose Rizal came at a time when U.P. was already established, he’d probably be a Maroon too.

I find it pathetic that a number of you guys think that your school is the best solely because you won championships in sports.

@ Vejano: Go kiss my MAROON gluteus maximus. I may not be an Archer fan, but UST is better than DLSU? The best in the world? C’mon, stop taking spliffs and smell the roses. You need some reality check.

We may not be the best in university sports programs, but WE ARE THE BEST WHERE IT COUNTS. U.P. is THE premiere university of our motherland. THAT is a non sequitur.

I would like to comment on Vejano’s “Tiga UST ako… kami ang pinaka-magandang eskwelahan sa buong mundo!!!” statement.

I pity you in your shallow belief, maybe as a result of hasty thinking or to say, EMPTY thinking as there is so much less to think.

If the basis of an excellent university is on the victory of a basketball game (which was made for the sole purpose of promoting athletic activities w/in universities and entertainment for fanatics) then no wonder the Philippines is plunging in deeper pits.

“Dukha” is a very relative word, as you mentioned. But no matter how i look at it, USTe may be the most “dukha” of all the 4 schools you mentioned.

ADMU boasts of its unbeatable educational system
DLSU brags of its great facilties and airconditioned buildings

and USTe?

nakakatuwa naman basahin ang mga posts dito. first of all, im a UST alumni AND a San Beda college of law student. bakit napunta sa schools ang away eh basketball ang pinag-uusapan dito?
lahat ng schools may mga trying hard, feeling, mayabang, etc. all i can say is, UST is a center of excellence pagdating sa bachelor of arts. Beda naman, college of law. Kaya nga dito ako pumunta. DLSU din, i heard magaling ang mga computer courses, Ateneo naman, creative writing ata. So lahat ng schools may “best.” Sa totoo lang, nagulat ako na nanalo ang UST, magaling tlga si coach Pido. Minsan, nasa coach tlga ang pagkapanalo ng team. And Ekwe is a nice guy. Wag naman laitin. Madalas na nga asarin sa quarters, pati ba naman kayo. =)

UST isn’t really the only tower in academe. Each school has their own field of expertise. I don’t think that UST dominates in all fields. Maybe the reason is because UST has a huge community of people who don’t need to study as hard as the other schools.
